A beseeching to the God of the Polyglots. Mode of communication between students and staff needs improvement.
There are 2 types of communication that I use on this website. The first type, questions about grammar, have always been answered most expertly and completely, way beyond expectations. My comments below are about the 2nd type, questions about the accuracy of the results of a quiz. It is the mechanics of communication needed in these cases about which I am commenting here.
1. The editing window in the forum needs some editing capabilities. The most important being the ability to add attachments. This cannot be easily dismissed. When I send a comment on a quiz result, I am always asked where it originates and I have no easy way of describing that and, without that description you are unable to properly respond. If I could take a snapshot of the quiz results and send that snapshot to you that would go a long way towards making this process more fruitful and less painful for both the student and staff. This suggestion really needs to be discussed further.
2. Add some kind of tag or identifier to be displayed in the quiz results page as an index to identify the source when a student wants to discuss quiz results with the staff. Then, you would not have to ask a student where the result originates.. There are simply too many possible places (hundreds of grammar topics and hundreds of quizzes) and no easy way to identify them after the quiz has taken. The fact that I may be the only one who ever makes such a suggestion, which I expect I am, does not mean that other students are not having similar difficulties in discussing quiz results as I am. I would bet my bottom dollar that they are.
3. Allow email as a means of communicating issues that may require advanced editing capabilities.
Ever appreciative, James
Hola Inma,
Regarding the sentence "¿A quién no le gustaría quedarse en un lugar así? With the meaning "who would not like to stay in a place like this" I expected that the subjunctive may be needed, though exactly how this would work with the conditional is beyond me. Perhaps the inference is that absolutely nobody would refuse to stay there but I am speculating. Can you help?
Saludos
John
Hola,
I found this a lot to digest, so re-wrote the lesson to try to understand it better.
Would you be able to do me a big favour and check to see if I’ve understood it correctly?
Muchísimas gracias,
Another way of expressing a cause is with de tan, etcThe clause (de tan, etc) can be placed at the beginning of the sentence or at the end in certain circumstances.
The sub-clause ('de tan' bit) expresses the reason the main clause happens
Because he dances so well, he is going to be given a prize
Or
He is going to be given a prize because he dances so well
De tan is used with an adjective or adverb
Can be used sub clause first or second...
Because he dances so well, he is going to be given a prize
OrHe is going to be given a prize because he dances so well.
Sub clause first way...
Because he dances so well, he is going to be given a prize
De tan+ adjective/adverb + que/como + indicative (then the main clause)
De tan bien que baila le van a dar un premio
Or De tan bien como baila le van a dar un premio
Main clause first way...
He is going to be given a prize because he dances so well.
(Main clause...) + de tan + adjective/ adverb + que/como + indicative
Le van a dar un premio de tan bien que bailaOrLe van a dar un premio de tan bien como baila
De tanto/a/os/as is used with a noun/s
He got a stomach ache because of all those chocolates he ate.
(Main clause...) + De tanto/a/os/as + noun + que/como + indicative
Le dio un dolor de barriga de tantos chocolates como comió.OrLe dio un dolor de barriga de tantos chocolates que comió.
With this de tanto, noun construction, the sub clause is always second
The third way de tanto/ tan poco with verbs
He is going to get really fat because he eats so much.
The sub clause can begin or end the sentence
De tanto/tan poco que/como + indicative...
De tanto que come se va a poner gordísimo.
Or
Se va a poner gordísimo de tanto que come
It can be written again either 'de tanto que' or 'de tanto como'
Tan poco...
You will become a loner because you hardly go out.
Te vas a convertir en un solitario de tan poco que sales.
Or De tan poco que sales te vas a convertir en un solitario
Again, we can say 'tan poco que' or 'tan poco como'
Dame todo ________ tengas en el bolso.Give me everything you have in your handbag.
lo que was the correct answer. cuanto marked wrong.
Why is cuanto wrong in this question?
Could I also say por vuestra luna de miel? In case I would like to emphasize the reason for going here, not the timeframe?
1. In your "hint", you told us to "... use a pronominal verb for 'take advantage' " -
- but despite that^, in order to get a correct answer we were supposed to write: "Aprovecha la ruptura para conocerte más a ti misma" - [i.e., with 'aprovecha', a non-pronominal verb?]
("Aprovecha la ruptura ..." is of course quite consistent with the guidelines given in your lesson at Spanish verb Aprovechar vs Aprovecharse (pronominal verbs) [number 7478] ... so it is only your 'hint' which needs to be modified, not your text).
-.-.-.-.-
2. In your sentence: "... ya que ambos estábais sumergidos en una relación tóxica", there should not be a tilde in 'estabais'?
Hi,
I have just completed an A1 test where the missing word(s) were required in this sentence:
Siempre ________ confundo haciendo este ejercicio.
The hint was that the reflexive verb 'confundirse' was used.
My answer was 'Siempre yo me confundo ...' and was marked wrong. The correct answer dropped the 'yo'. Is that correct? Surely, both answers are correct, although mine may not be commonly spoken.
Best regards,
Colin
