could we use " De haberlo sabido antes" insted?
I wrote: Qué metiste en esa caja? and was marked wrong. The right answer should be : Qué metias en esa caja?
As I understand it you did not put something in the box habitually. You did it at a special occasion. So what's wrong with "metiste"?

I've noticed in this construction that desde is used at the end of the sentences, and within the middle of the construction it is not.
Trying to extend my learning with the following example
Llevaba cinco años sin fumar.
Could you say
Llevaba sin fumar desde 2015
Llevaba sin fumar desde hace cinco años
?
I'm thinking in terms of the construction when there is a specific date in mind (2015), compared to the 'ongoing' desde hace without a specific date.

Perhaps "espero encontrarla porque sino los villancicos no serán los mismos" can also be rendered: "espero encontrarla porque si no los villancicos no serán los mismos" ? … Are both versions equally acceptable, or is one preferred over the other?

There appears to be a direct contradiction above:

Are these two sentences correct and can the conditional perfect and future perfect be used interchangeably.

Good topic. I hear these constructions a lot from my Mexican friends. Even in dance class the instructor used to say "¿Sale?" after teaching a new step.
I find that in general they use inverted constructions a lot in Mexico.
How would we put these constructions into question form? For example, could we ask "¿Cómo te sale?" to ask how something turned out?
