Puse solo la mitad de la harina en el bol.
I only put half the (quantity of) flour in the bowl.
Ella tiene el doble de hermanos que él.
She has twice as many siblings as he does.
Why is it de LA harina, but not de LOS hermanos? Is the definite article always skipped after doble de? There was a quiz question for "________ tiempo" meant to be filled with doble. Would it be "el doble de" or "el doble del"?
Am I right in thinking that this form of relative cannot be used at all after a preposition?
Ellas suelen ir al cine los viernes
Usually we use Ellas van, how about this Ellas suelen ir? May I know what is this ir in this case.
Doing the quiz "To like" in Spanish: gustar, I get the above error and a reference to a French quiz. I don't get my results
Hi!
Is there also a short form for "3 elevado a 2 igual a 9"? Would "3 a 2 son 9" work? (and is that even the correct translation of "to the whatever power"?)
Also, can I drop the "por" when variables are involved? Like "2 por x" -> "2 x"?
Muchas gracias
gustáisse gustaos gustagustanHola todos,
Hoping you are all well.
I have 2 questions on this exercise:
that broke the monotony of black and white.
1-) re: que rompía la monotonía del blanco y negro.
I wrote: "del negro y blanco."
Could you tell me why the Spanish inverts the adjectives. (I even checked with Reverso and they translated it the same way.
2) re: and people liked it.
Kwizbot y a la gente le gustaba.
You y le gustaba a la gente.
Don't know why this particular arrangement would be the only one possible?
Thank you.
Nicole
I chose "Mientras que yo hice la compra" for the mini kwiz which was wrong. But one of the example sentences uses the indefinite: "Su romance fue bonito mientras duró." I guess I'm unclear about why the indefinite was wrong on the kwiz.
Also, for the sense of "mientras" meaning "as long as", could we substitute "si"?
Could this be desde hace in this sentence
Dying one's hair is something which maybe be done oneself or by professionals. Am I to understand that the construction of a sentence about hair dye is the same regardless of whether one does it to oneself or has it done by professionals? Are we left to infer which is the case based on how good the resultant hair looks?
I suppose this is similar in English wherein someone might observe "you cut your hair" as readily as "you got a haircut" but with rare exceptions (thinking of my brother circa age 4) intend to imply even in the first case that you yourself cut your own hair.
