I see quite some time has been devoted to this subject.  The first time I read the hairdresser example, the English struck me as quite wrong.  I would add my two cents as follows: 

If I went to the hairdresser, I'd spend a lot of money or If I went (had gone) to the hairdresser, I would have spent a lot of money.

Those seem to me to be the simplest way to correct it because one can't correctly say I would spent.

Does this mean “since i am playing to be able to participate in the next Olympics”. If so is “el” before “poder” necessary or could it be removed and still be correct?

Does it mean that he wants to be on the ship on the day of his birthday? Or does he want to receive the gift on that day?

Hello, I have just reached 75%+ in the B1 level of Kwiziq.  I have found whilst progressing through A2 courses in the past that it is better for me to reach 75%+ in a level before attempting the written library exercises. 

Even though in the lessons I have "completed" B1, I am finding the weekend workouts at this level very difficult.  I specifically joined Kwiziq as I feel that these "now create sentences and paragraphs in Spanish" is a unique feature for online learning, but wow, they are tricky.

Please someone tell me that this is how it was for them, and that eventually it will become more simple!! Lie if you have to!!

I get confused at times with the meaning of items in parentheses,  for example, like in this:

but generally all of them give (us) a sweet [US: some candy].

Kwizbot           pero normalmente todos dan un dulce. 
You                  pero normalmente nos dan unas dulces.

What meant by the different parentheses? (us) a sweet [US: some candy].  And how are they to be interpreted?
