In your example on the use of tanto...como, one of your sentence has left me uncertain about the translation. Tanto cuando son pequeños como majores, los hijos siempre preocupan a los padres. The English translation in your example is: Whether they are young or grown-up, children are always a worry for their parents. The use of the personal "a" before the word "los padres" suggests that the children worry about the parents, except that the verb should have been "se preocupan"..If it was intended to mean that the parents always worry about the children whether young or grown-up, in my opinion, the words "los hijos" and "los padres" should be interchanged, with the verb se preocupan. Otherwise " están ocupados" should have been used instead of "preocupan" and or used before los padres. Please advise.
While working in a Spanish-speaking school, the kids would say, "Se puede entrar?" to ask if they could enter the class room. The teacher would respond by saying, "Sí, se puede." Why would they use this form? It's like saying, "Can one enter the room?" Is it actually a passive question instead?

In the following quiz I replied with ‘...solamente hubiéramos llegado...’ and it was marked as incorrect. The required answer was just ‘hubiéramos llegado’. Was I in fact wrong to include ‘solamente’? Is the ‘if only’ implied here?

For this question: Es improbable que los niños ________ la puerta. These options show as correct: hayan roto / rompieran. I understand hayan roto, as the impersonal beginning signifies "subjunctive", and the event is in the past. However, I learned at a language school in Cuernavaca that present tense statements (es improbable) could only match with haber + participle, and that only past events (eg "era improbable" could match with imperfect subjunctive (rompieran). The teachers made a big deal out of that. However here it shows up as a legitimate option. Can you explain? Thank you.
¨Consiguieron que las mujeres participaran¨ ... would ´participaron´ also be correct here, given the lack of uncertainty as to what was achieved?
