the words "such as" in the text do not appear in the Spanish translation

I've read so many times about the difference between these tenses but It's like banging my head against a wall. "el taxi LLEGÓ veinte minutos tarde y el taxista ERA muy antipático. The taxi driver was unfriendly in the imperfect tense in the same taxi that arrived late in the preterite tense. This is so difficult.

I wonder if this is the case of leísmo, since the verb mirar is a trasitive one and my answer "lo mirábamos" was accepted as correct. Also, what is the diference between mirar and ver?

I see in this lesson that when the subject is the same, we should be using the infinitive. I need to work on that!

Is it ever a  “tolerable” error among native speakers to commit this mistake when using a colloquial register? I frequently want to say things like “Dudo que (yo) pueda hacerlo para viernes” instead of “poder hacerlo.” I know you’re here to teach us the right way!! Just curious as to “how” wrong it is.

In this construction, can the "se" also go at the end of the infinitive, like this:

    No debe fumarse.

Does ¨reírse de¨ just means laughing at someone with ¨mockery¨ meaning, or it has another meaning?

Why is it incorrect when the sentence was no animals?
