Is querría actually wrong on this case to say "I would like to see the paintings"?

For would like we would use the more common form of gustar in the conditional - me gustaría ver los cuadros rather than querría.
Querría is normally used as a form of courtesy or politeness. See lesson - Using querría, quería and quisiera to politely say "I would like.

Hola Peter
Yes, querría would also be correct. That's been added to the exercise.
Gracias
