Fue vs. Fue ie. Was vs. Went

When I quizzed my Studyplan, one of the questions was:

"What does "Olivia fue a la piscina esta mañana." mean?

The correct answer was: "Olivia went to the swimming pool this morning.", which I got right, because 'ir' is followed by 'a' in this sentence.

I noticed that in the lesson all the examples using "ser" in the Preterito Indefinido were followed by either a noun or an adjective:

"Él fue alpinista en su juventud." (He was a climber in his youth.) In this case a "noun";

"Ellos fueron muy famosos el año pasado." (They were very famous last year.) In this case an "adjective".

My question is how would you say, "Olivia WAS at the swimming pool this morning."?

Would you say, "Olivia fue en la piscina esta manana."?, using "en" rather than "a"?

("Olivia fue la piscina esta manana." doesn't sound right at all.)

If this is the case, a few examples added to the lesson would be a great help.

Same meaning without “se”? María te habría prestado el dinero ________ en dos semanas. María would have lent you the money as long as you had given it back within two weeks.mientras tú se lo habrías devueltomientras que se lo hubieras devuelto. Hi, would the meaning be the same if “se” was omitted? With “se” does it actually mean “returned it to her”? Thanks, Shirley.

Suggestion: change the lesson linked to the question. Los nietos ________ aquí porque el salón está sucio. The grandchildren must have been here because the living room is dirty.(HINT: Conjugate "estar" in El Futuro Perfecto.)A suggestion, link this question with the lesson “Using the spanish future perfect to talk about the past”, rather than “Conjugate regular verbs in the perfect future.” Reason: “Must have been” refers to the past. The examples in “Conj. reg verbs in fut. perf.” all refer to the future. Thanks, Shirley.

Why irse not ir?Él se fue de acampada con sus amigos ________ en casa tranquila. He went camping with his friends while I studied at home quietly. Hi, I’m confused about se fue here. Does it mean he went AWAY camping? rather than he went camping? Thanks, Shirley.

El Presente vs. El Preterito Indefinido

Hola,

The third person plural form of the Present tense, (El Presente), and the Preterite tense, (El Preterito Indefinido), are identical for -ar verbs.

Since that is the case, may I suggest that there is a note about this in the lesson with a few examples to show how context can clarify which tense is being used? This would be very helpful.

A simple chart comparing the present and past conjugations alongside each other of some common verbs such as 'trabajar' or 'hablar' would also be useful, especially for those learners who are very visual.
