Él pudo irse de vacaciones

Hi,

In the above sentence could 'ir' replace 'irse'?  If not, why not?

What is the meaning of 'irse' if not 'to go'?  And, when would it be used?

Thank you.

Hola Colin

Yes you can either say pudo ir de vacaciones or pudo irse de vacaciones. The use of the verb pronominally "irse" is common. You can find an explanation here in our Kwiziq lesson on this use of "se". Have a look here
