It sounds strange to me to say Ellos fueron amigos. Isn't it better to say Ellos eran amigos, when there is no time specification?
The translation of the sentence is missing. Why is there hubieras after si?
Coudl you please add examples of compound sentences with theconjunction si? Or is it covered in another lesson?
I would like to ak why is the accent in the audio on the second syllable?
No aceptaba que su amigo tuviera una serpiente en casa.
She couldn't accept her friend having a snake at home.
Why does this not translate to:
"She didn't accept that her friend had a snake at home."
In other words, why isn't "had" the translation for "tuviera" instead of "having"?
I have confusion about where in the sentence to place the adverb "mañana". For example, above it notes
"Cuando vayas mañana al mercado ... "
However, I'm confused as to why it would not have been "Cuando vayas al mercado mañana ..."
Please give some clarity.
In the question, How would you say "There was an accident on the motorway" the nearest correct answer I can find is "Había un accidente...", and there isn't the option for preterite 'hubo'. However, because accidents are one time actions with clear beginnings and ends, it's more appropriate to use the preterite tense in this case. In fact, this particular sentence is a very common one to use when explaining the differences between the two conjugations and especially to illustrate why imperfect simply doesn't work here.
What is the rule regarding seasons of the year. When do we use the definite article el and when not. En el invierno/en invierno.
Thank you
