Using los or las to say "the" in Spanish (plural definite articles)

The article "the" in Spanish (plural)

Listen to these examples:

Las amapolas de mi jardín son rojas.The poppies in my garden are red.

Los perros ladran.The dogs bark.

Las gemelas son rubias.The twins are blonde.

Los zapatos marrones están de moda este año.Brown shoes are fashionable this year.

Note that to express the + [plural noun] in Spanish, you use either los or las, depending on the gender of the noun it refers to:

las for feminine plural nouns
los for masculine plural nouns

 

Remember that in Spanish, like in all Latin languages, every noun is either masculine or feminine.
