Ya volví de Grecia: Shouldn't the English translation simply be I already returned?
Doesn't I've already returned e.g. I have returned imply Pretérito Perfecto Compuesto, e.g Ya he vuelto
Hola Alex
There is a note at the end of the lesson which clarifies why we are using the perfect tense in English. So, although the tense doesn't coincide in Spanish and English, it conveys the same. I will ask our English experts to double check this though.
This is the note:
"Something to consider is that the English equivalent may use the perfect tense (I have already done) instead of the preterite (I already did). English uses the present perfect when there is still a connection to the present (and possibly the future), e.g. "I have been there three times (and I might go again)" vs "I went there three times (and I'll never go back)."
Saludos
This is excellent, Inma. Sometimes our difficulties in Spanish come from an incomplete understanding of how our own language works.
