Using LO and LA?

El policía fue hacia él y lo arrestó.Would the female version be:  El policia fue hacia ella y LA arresto?

Hola Kaly

Yes, that's correct! "El policia fue hacia ella y LA arresto?"

I am not sure about this - I thought the indirect object was always "le" in Spanish, regardless of whether referring to something masculine or feminine. Thus: El policía fue hacia ella y le arrestó. The direct objects would be lo for masculine and la for feminine. Please advise..

Hola Catherine

You're right, le is the indirect object pronoun for both him and her, but here it is a direct object: if you arrest someone, that someone is the direct object (not indirect), it is a transitive verb.

So, as he is arresting a lady, you need the direct object pronoun: la

I hope it clarified it.

In this example is fue not folllowed by “a” because it is already followed by a preposition?
