Quedar vs Quedarse for Results

I'm not clear on the difference between Quedar and Quedarse when expressing results.  The lesson says to use quedar to emphasize a result, and to use quedarse to express the result of a change.  What's the difference, please?  For instance, the following two examples seem pretty similar to me:

Seguro que quedarás contenta con tu pelado nuevo.
I am sure you will be/end up pleased with your new hair cut.

¡Laura va a quedarse pasmada con la noticia!
Laura will be astonished with the news!

Thanks.

Hola Chris

It's true that those two uses, one explained for quedar and another explained for quedarse have a pretty much identical usage. I've been trying to spot the very specific nuance in one or the other but I have come to the conclusion (and I did a bit of research on this) that the difference is that they both express the same, however quedar sounds/is more commonly used with certain adjectives and quedarse with other adjectives. There doesn't seem to be a clear pattern though on which type of adjective for each.

I will add a note to the lesson about this. We made sure though that no test-question was created in a way that made you choose between the two forms of the verb so the test-questions are more based on the other uses.

I can also add that adding the pronoun sometimes emphasises the action the same way we do with the "se aspectual", and using quedar or quedarse (to express a result) is also often a question of style.

Saludos cordiales.

In the examples, quedar + adj is for feelings, and quedarse + adj is for states.
