Por la mañana desayuno cereales.

Hi,

I note from my dictionary that there is also the verb desayunarse.  In the above sentence desayunar has been used, when would desayunarse be better?

Many thanks.

Hola Colin

In peninsular Spanish we use "desayunar" (not desayunarse) for having breakfast. Maybe it is common to use it in some parts of Latin America with "se", but not in Spain.

With a completely different meaning the verb "desayunarse" is used colloquially meaning "to hear about something/to find out", but not when meaning having breakfast.

Saludos
