English different than Spanish
Según los periódicos, ________ elecciones en Octubre.
According to the newspapers, there would be an election in October.
“an election” vs “elecciones”.
I know it doesn’t change the correct answer.

Hola Shirley
In Spanish we always use this word in plural "elecciones" for an electing process, but in English, apparently you use it in singular if it is one single election for a post, and in plural if there is more than one post; in this instance the singular was chosen because there is no clear indication as there is no more context. I hope this clarified it.
Saludos
