Born María de la Almudena Grandes Hernández in 1960, Almudena Grandes wrote short stories and novels, many of which have been translated into other languages and several have been adapted for film. Her best-known work is probably Las edades de Lulu (translated into English as The Ages of Lulu) which was made into a film of the same name, directed by Bigas Lunas and starring Javier Bardem.

Almudena Grandes sadly died on the 27th November 2021. Find out more about her life and work with this reading and listening exercise the Spanish team has prepared as a tribute.
