Conjugate -ar verbs with o > ue change in El Presente de Subjuntivo (present subjunctive)

Spanish -ar verbs that have an o>ue stem change in El Presente have the same stem change in El Presente de Subjuntivo.

Have a look at these two verbs:

soñar (to dream) and volar (to fly)


This table shows two verbs that follow this pattern:

  SOÑAR

Notice how the -o- from the infinitive has switched to a -ue- in all forms except for nosotros and vosotros.

Their endings are the same as other regular -ar verbs in El Presente de Subjuntivo.

Other verbs with this same stem change are:

  • Encontrar (to find)
  • Mostrar (to show)
  • Demostrar (to demonstrate)
  • Soltar (to set free)

Ella no quiero que yo le muestre mis sentimientos.
She doesn't want me to show her my feelings.

Don't let go of the kite, Pedro!

Javier no imagina que ella sueñe con él.
Javier doesn't imagine she dreams about him.

No creo que volemos más con esa compañía.
I don't think we'll fly again with that airline.

Será un milagro que encontréis la aguja.
It will be a miracle if you find the needle.

La azafata pide que ustedes muestren sus pasaportes.
The stewardess asks that you to show her your passports.
