Should the first sentence be using vosotros, i.e. Me recordáis a mi abuela, porque es que brilláis con luz propia como ella.
Maybe I'm missing something but isn't the rest of the passage referring to two people?

I see what you mean and why you would interpret this the way you did.
I read the whole dictation to check. It is indeed referring to "two" people. When he says "Me recuerdas a mi abuela" he is referring to that one friend he is talking to. Then he continues with "porque es que brillas con luz propia como ella" - still referring to just her friend to whom he is saying all this.
From there onward he starts using the plural because now he is comparing the two of them, i.e. his friend (the listener) and his grandma. So he now says: "las dos habéis nacido...", "aquello que hacéis profesionalmente... - this is because he is saying that both, her friend (listener) and his grandma are sharing all these qualities/facts.
Maybe the misinterpretation comes if you assume that he is talking about a grandma who is not alive? (which wouldn't be odd to assume, I kind of did in the beginning...) but it becomes clear after the first few sentences that oh! the grandma is actually alive!
