Where do you want to eat when we go out tonight?

Where do you want to eat when we go out tonight?

Hi, can you clarify this question? In my opinion this is a question about something that WILL happen. It seems to me that the situation is that it is already decided that we will go out tonight, so I answered with the indicative:

¿Dónde quieres comer cuando salimos esta noche?

but the correct answer was given as:

¿Dónde quieres comer cuando salgamos esta noche?

Can you explain this a little more? I'm clearly missing some nuance.

Thanks!

Hola Giovanni

This question is about the use of "cuando" followed by the present indicative or the present subjunctive. In the lesson we explain that if we are talking about something that hasn't happened yet but it refers to something happening in the future we need the present subjunctive, which is this case. ¿.........cuando salgamos esta noche? -> when we go out tonight

As a contrast, we use cuando + present indicative when we talk about actions that actually happen (not future events), for example:

"Cuando salgo con Javier, siempre voy al cine." ->  Every time I go out with Javier, I always go to the cinema. (this action actually happens.)

I hope this clarifies it.
