When to use female or masc. Nationalities

Nosotras vivimos en Dublín pero somos ________. We live in Dublin but we are Portuguese.(HINT: portugués = singular for Portuguese
Why is the answer portugesas, which isfemale?

Hola Jackie

You can see at the beginning of the sentence that it is referring to "we" in feminine: Nosotras vivimos..., so you then need "portuguesas".

I agree there is no clue to the gender therefore we should use the masculine. WE could be a couple so use masculine

I agree there is no clue to the gender therefore we should use the masculine.  Ah spotted it nosotras is feminine. Masculin would be nosotros Therefore is portugusas

The subject is saying "Nosotras... (using the feminine plural)
