What makes this sentence subjuntivo?
El banco nos dijo que firmáramos los documentos.The bank told us to sign the documents.

Hola Todd
Here the main verb "decir" (que) has the same meaning as "pedir" (que), as in "asking someone to do something", therefore the subjunctive is needed.
