¡Feliz Año Nuevo Elaine!

A verb is reflexive when the subject and object are the same.

For example:

I wash myself.

In the example above, "I" is the subject and "myself" the object. Since the subject and the object are the same, the verb is reflexive.

But, if you say:

I wash the T-shirt.

Here, "I" is the subject and "T-shirt" the object. Since the subject and the object are different, the verb is NOT reflexive.

Also, all reflexive verbs end by "-se" in the infinitive. For example, "llamarse" (to be called), "levantarse" (to get up) and "despertarse" (to wake up) are reflexive verbs.

I hope this explanation helps.

Un saludo,

Silvia.
