Use of conditional or subjunctive - perhaps both are permissible here?

Use of conditional or subjunctive - perhaps both are permissible here?

The correct answer for "Maybe I should sleep less" is given as: "Tal vez debería dormir menos tiempo", using the conditional. However, under "Your Practice" we are directed to: https:// + "progress.lawlessspanish.com/my-languages/spanish/view/5084" - which helps us to choose between: "Using El Subjuntivo or El Indicativo ... [after tal vez and quizás - to express doubt]".

Hola David

We can use quizás, quizá and tal vez with the conditional of some modal verbs (deber, poder), but in this case we are conveying a "suggestion" for someone to do something or even a suggestion to yourself, exactly the same way you do in English: "Perhaps I should call my mum tonight..." or "Perhaps you could try that other dress...":

Quizás debería llamar a mi madre esta noche...

Tal vez podrías probarte ese otro vestido...

 - I have included a note to reflect this at the end of that lesson, but bear in mind the different nuance.

By the way, taking you to that lesson was obviously confusing as there was no mention of the conditional, I agree.

Saludos

Inma
