telling the time

telling the time

1:30 is more than 1:00. 1 = es. Me imagino que más que uno debe estar "son", no? Or are all hours plural even when they're not?

Hola Garry,

when it is 1 o'clock or from 1 to 1:59 you use "es", so:

Es la una.

Es la una y cinco

Es la una y media

But if you say it using number 2 for, for example, 1:45, because you use number 2 then you need "son" (even if it is still earlier than 2):

Son las dos menos cuarto

Son las dos menos diez

etc

Saludos
