1:30 is more than 1:00. 1 = es. Me imagino que más que uno debe estar "son", no? Or are all hours plural even when they're not?

Hola Garry,
when it is 1 o'clock or from 1 to 1:59 you use "es", so:
Es la una.
Es la una y cinco
Es la una y media
But if you say it using number 2 for, for example, 1:45, because you use number 2 then you need "son" (even if it is still earlier than 2):
Son las dos menos cuarto
Son las dos menos diez
etc
