In one of the tests it mentions 'a lo Marilyn Monroe'. I was thinking this was a feminine example, so was expecting to see 'a la Marilyn...'

yes, when we talk about a certain celebrity style we always use "a lo" + celebrity (fem. or masc.). I imagine it is because that "lo" refers to a "style" not the actual person.
I added an extra note in the lesson to reflect this. I hope it helps.
