Shouldn't plurality of "lo mismo" match plurality of "son"?

In the kwiz, the sentence is: "La matemática y la aritmética no son lo mismo." I understand that we use "lo mismo" when discussing an abstract idea, but in this case, does the phrase have to match the compound subject and verb, los mismos

Hola Elaine

When referring to being "the same idea" you can still find the verb conjugated in the they form but have "lo mismo" after. In this case, the translation is very literal " Las matemáticas y la aritmética no son lo mismo" -> "Maths and aritmetic are not the same thing (not: the same things)

I hope this helps
