Re: It is very close to the beach!

Kwizbot                ¡Está muy cerca de la playa!
You                       !Está muy cerca a la playa!

You could also say:     ¡Está muy próximo a la playa!

Would it be correct to say: “cerca a” or does cerca always require a “de”

Thank you, Nicole

Hola Cornelius

Yes, "próximo a" is sometimes used as a synonym of cerca de, meaning near/close [to something]. See examples given to Nicole in this same thread.

Hola Nicole

cerca is always used with preposition "de", not with "a".

próximo is always used with preposition "a" not with "de".

However, it is important to note, in case you come across this that adjective "cercano/cercana" must be used with preposition "a" not "de".

Some examples so you can see how they work:

Tenemos un apartamento que está cerca de la playa.

We have an apartment that is near the beach.

Tenemos un apartamento que está próximo a la playa.

We have an apartment that is near the beach.

Tenemos un apartamento cercano a la playa.

We have an apartment [that is] close to the beach.
