Qué hubiera vs. hubiera

Qué hubiera vs. hubiera

Quiz question: Ojalá ________ menos egoísmo en el mundo. ?

I wish there were less selfishness in the world.

(HINT: Use "haber" in El Imperfecto de Subjuntivo)

In the above I answered “qué hubiera” and got it wrong, where the correct answer was “hubiera.”

However, in a separate section, there was an explanation that “qué can be added after ojalá without changing the meaning.”

Can you clarify whether my “qué hubiera” answer should have been correct?

You can say ojalá que but I think the question was just about conjugating haber in the imperfect subjunctive so it only wanted you to type the conjugated verb. Oh and it should be que not qué

Hola Alejandro

Exactly as Marsha said, when you see in the hint that it's asking to conjugate a verb in a tense, bear in mind that that is what we are testing for, so no need to add any extra information. I have, though, included "que hubiera" and "que hubiese" in that question as possible correct answers too.

Marsha is also right on que without an accent in this case.

Saludos
