Here's something I always tend to do after completing a translation exercise:

When I've finished the translation, and whether or not I did well or not so good with it, I click on the link next to the play button of the translation I've just done. The link says, All related grammar and Vocabulary. I then go through all of these lessons. By doing this, I can reinforce my learning, and see exactly where I've made mistakes and why. 

Don't give up Peter, try to be patient with yourself. Believe it or not, the mistakes we make are the very ones that help us to remember the correct way to write or say something in Spanish. Congratulate yourself for all the positive steps you're making in Spanish. Keep going, you'll get there eventually.

My condolences! Same for me but I can see now that the "imperfect" is for past actions that were continuing at that time: "She was walking" while the "pretérito" is for an action that happened and finished: ""she walked". It sure takes a while . . .
