Porque vs Como

Question

I thought that porque explained the cause of something whereas como presented a fact that the listener needed to know to understand what followed (but was not the cause).   It I’m not sure if that rule works with the examples here?  Am I missing something?

"Como" can also mean "as..." (= "because) if you place it at the beginning as we explain in the lesson. For example:

Mi hija está triste porque no puede ir al concierto.
My daughter is sad because she can't go to the concert.

or

Como no puede ir al concierto, mi hija está triste.
Because/As she can't go to the concert, my daughter is sad.

It may not sound so natural to swap the order in the English but it's quite common to use como that way in Spanish.
