"para mis amigos y yo" -- why not "mí"?

"y va a pedir limonada y café para mis amigos y yo"

Good morning,

Would you explain why it's "yo" here and not "mí", which I thought followed "para"?

¡Muchas gracias!

Hola J. R.

Normally, "para" is followed by the prepositional pronoun "mí" (e.g., para mí). However, when "" would appear alongside another noun or pronoun, we use "yo" instead.

In this case, "mis amigos" is included in the phrase, so the correct form is "para mis amigos y yo" rather than "para mis amigos y mí".

This follows a general rule in Spanish: when a first-person singular pronoun appears in a compound phrase (with another person or group), we use the subject pronoun "yo" instead of the prepositional pronoun "".

Hope that helps!

Silvia
