"Yo sumerjo mis manos en el agua." Why is it "mis manos" rather than "las manos"? Thanks.

Mis manos vs las manos
This question relates to:Spanish lesson "Conjugate stem-changing (g > j) verbs: -ger and -gir verbs in the present tense in Spanish (El Presente)"
Asked 3 years ago
Hola Rod
We normally use the definite article (el, la, los, las) instead of using the possessive when it's clear that it is part of our own body (as it is obvious, so we don't need to specify with my, your, her...) In this example we are using "mis" though. This is not incorrect; this would be a way of emphasising that it is "my" hands. But, as this has come up before, we'll change it to the more natural way of saying it, using "las".
Gracias y saludos
