I think it would be very helpful if you gave the literal translations of sentences as well as the conversational translation. I have been assigning wrong meanings to words...

Me pediste perdón.You apologised to me.
Is there a separate word for "apologise" ?

Hola Joseph

There are different ways to say "apologise" in Spanish; one of them is "disculparse", another one is "pedir perdón" (literally to ask [for] forgiveness), which is what we used here.

We do give the literal translation sometimes but only if it is absolutely necessary, for example, when it is a quiz and we don't expect the student to know a specific idiomatic expression in Spanish, therefore not having the literal translation may confuse the student. But generally we use the most natural translation in English.

Un saludo

Inma
