Este mes, present or future

Este mes, present or future

Ojalá que este mes nos toque la lotería. This is marked as NOT being the present.

This below in the lesson could be this month or could be future. It is a bit confusing, why is the above wrong to be in the present, if it uses the same structure as the below?

Este mes tengo mucho trabajo.I have/am having a lot of work this month.

Here, the speaker could be referring to the current month which they are still in, or they could be referring to this "coming" month

Hola Michelle

The use of the present subjunctive with the demostratives is not really a specific topic as such, this is why we don't have any lesson with that content. I looked at the sentences that we used in this lesson that use the present subjunctive and they all use ojalá... and espero que...:

Espero que este año tengas suerte.

I hope you are luck this year.

Ojalá que este mes nos toque la lotería.

I hope / wish I win the lottery this month.

Here, ojalá...  and espero que... trigger the subjunctive. They convey actions that have not happened yet. The other indicator of this being a future action is "este año" and "este mes" because they are referring to some poing during this year or this month that has not happened yet.

Here are two lessons that you may find useful:

ojalá

esperar que

Un saludo

Hola Kerry

In this sentence using "este mes" : "Ojalá que este mes nos toque la lotería", we can see that it can't be referring to the present because it is a "wish": "I hope we win the lottery this month", so the context is telling us it has not happened yet and we are talking about the future.

I hope it clarified it.

Saludos

Please update the section on este, estos, esta, estas to include a discussion on the use of the subjunctive with these demonstrative pronouns. Maybe it's there in a different place, but it belongs here. Otherwise, it is confusing.
