Está bien?

Está bien?

Hola Inma,

Can you clear something up for me?

The question was given in this format "Está bien que vosotros ________ todas las noches."

It seems like an impersonal statement but isn't the usual structure Ser+Adjetivo+Que ..... hence: "Es bueno que leáis todas las noches?"

Saludos. John

Hola John

Yes, we have the same structure with the two different verbs.

Estar can also be used with adverbs/adjectives + que, and this also triggers the subjunctive as you could see with that example. Very similarly to "está bien que..." and with a very close meaning to that, we have for example:

Está genial que...

Está estupendo que...

Está fantástico que...

These are more colloquial than the more general "Es genial que..." "Es estupendo que..." or "Es fantástico que...".

I am not completely sure what the nuance is with estar in these examples but it could be to create a sense of "result" - as if something had triggered the result of something becoming "great" --> "está genial que..." (instead of "es genial que...")

I will keep investigating to see if my interpretation is the right one or there is something else behind this usage : ))
