fui a malaga por/en avion

Do both of these work?

I always thought ´por´ was correct/more used?

"En avión" is preferred for people travelling... [My dictionary implies that "por avión" may be used for postal items sent by air mail]... Similarly 'en coche' and 'en tren'.
