Difference between comer and tomar with the same translation and context.

Why 'comí' una lubina, then 'tomé' un trozo, but with the same english translation?

Hola Kerry

tomar and comer are synonyms meaning "to eat" or "to have [something to eat]" - they are interchangeable. In some of the sentences in that writing challenge we added a hint saying to specifically use "tomar" in that case, but "comer" would be equally correct.

You can also use "tomar" when you are talking about "drinks", so in that case tomar means "to have/to drink" as in "having something to drink":

Tomé una coca cola.

I had (drank) a coke.

Tomamos unos cócteles en el bar.

We had (drank) some cocktails at the bar.

¿Qué quieres tomar?

What would you like to drink?

I hope it clarifies it.

Saludos

Inma
