Algunas veces vs. a veces

Question

I just reviewed the A1 lesson on veces/vez in which "sometimes" equals "algunas veces," but in examples above, "sometimes" equals "a veces." Is there a difference? Is "a veces" simply a more convenient way of saying "algunas veces?" Thank you.

Hi William,I would say that they are synonymous. Perhaps "algunas veces" refers to things that occur less frequently, i.e. 'a few times' rather than "a veces"= sometimes or at times. Yes, I think they're interchangeable. Hopefully Inma can confirm. You can also use "de vez en cuando" for sometimes. 😊

Yes, as Clara said, they are interchangeable. I can't really think of any specific nuance that one or the other have. I personally use "algunas veces" more naturally than "a veces" but it's all down to personal choice.
