Ahora lo tengo - translated as "now I understand it"?

Hi!

So in another Q&A, a commenter said "Ahora lo tengo", expressing that now they "understand it" or they "got it". Does that work in Spanish? I haven't found a lot about that on translation websites.

Thank you!

Hola Gabor

I'd have to see it in context, but if the commenter meant to say that as "I get it now [after your explanation]", yes, that could be said. However, it also sounds somehow like a literal translation from the English "I got it". In that context I think it'd sound a bit more natural to say:

Ya lo entiendo.

Ya te entiendo.

Lo entiendo.

Ahora lo entiendo.

Entender would be used in this case, more than tener.

However, we very often say "¡Ya lo tengo!" when you suddenly find a solution to something; something you've been thinking about for a while. When that solution comes to your mind you say "¡Ya lo tengo!" meaning "I know what to do!" "I've got it!" "I know!!"

For example:

¡Ya lo tengo! Lo que podemos hacer es....

I know!!! What we can do is....

Saludos
