How to use Spanish question tags: ¿no? ¿verdad?

Spanish has simple question tags,  just like English does (isn't it?, don't you?...). These are very easy to use!

Use of ¿verdad? and ¿no?

These two tags are used in the same way, therefore they are interchangeable. Like all question tags, they are placed at the end of a sentence and they seek confirmation/reassurance from the listener of what is being stated. Let's see some examples:

Está lloviendo mucho, ¿verdad? It's raining a lot, isn't it?

Está lloviendo mucho, ¿no?It is raining a lot, isn't it?

Antonio no trabaja contigo, ¿verdad?Antonio doesn't work with you, does he?

Antonio no trabaja contigo, ¿no?Antonio doesn't work with you, does he?

As you can see, both affirmative and negative statements use the same forms. Also, in Spanish, the type of verb used in the statement does not change the question tag, while in English, the type of question tag depends on both these factors.

Here are more examples:

Yo soy guapa, ¿verdad?I am pretty, aren't I?

Tú no has visto mi monedero, ¿no?You haven't seen my purse, have you?

Estarás lista para las 2, ¿verdad? You will be ready by 2, won't you?

Los estudiantes no deben usar calculadoras, ¿verdad? The students musn't use a calculator, right?

Ayer hubo un accidente en la autopista, ¿no?Yesterday there was an accident on the motorway, wasn't there?
