Transatlantic navigation connects Europe with America across the Atlantic Ocean. Since its beginnings, transatlantic voyages have been essential for exploration, trade and migration. The first transatlantic journeys were made on sailing ships. In 1492, Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic in search of new routes, facing long and dangerous voyages. The winds and currents of the Atlantic influenced his navigation routes, making the journey even more challenging. To navigate in the middle of the ocean, sailors used the stars, as well as maps and compasses, essential tools for their journeys. Many people emigrated to America by crossing the Atlantic by ship, seeking a new life. Today, modern ships cross the Atlantic with great speed and safety. Additionally, airplanes have revolutionized transatlantic navigation, making journeys much shorter. In short, transatlantic navigation marked the beginning of today’s globalization.
