The moon calendar calculates years according to the cycles of the moon. Every year, the moon completes twelve orbits around the Earth. These orbits are called lunations, and each lunation lasts 29.5 days. During these lunar periods there are four very distinct phases: new moon, first quarter, full moon and last quarter. These phases depend on the movements made by the Sun, the Moon and the Earth.
