Why le, not lo? (traten)

Why le, not lo? (traten)

El turista espera que los autóctonos le traten bien durante su estancia.

Doesn’t “le” mean “to/for” him?

Thank you,

Shirley.

Hola Shirley

The verb tratar (a alguien bien/mal) is a transitive verb, however the use of "le" as a direct object pronoun is also accepted if it refers to him (masculine singular). I changed it to "lo" though in the test-question.

Saludos
