Why did the narrator use "somos" and not "estamos"?

Question

I may have missed something here.  Is their happiness a permanent thing?  Shouldn't it be, "estamos más felices?"Thanks in advance,  Kaly

The last sentence in this dictation saying:
....discutimos menos y somos más felices is using ser because the speaker is implying a permanent state of mind as happy - We could have also used "y estamos más felices" and this would have also been correct; in this case it would refer more to their present state when they are talking. It is similiar to when we use ser or estar to describe food. We can say that:

La comida de este restaurante es buenísima. (a description of the food implying the permanent quality of its food)
La comida de este restaurante está buenísima. (a description of the food at the moment of enjoying it, focused on the taste more than a general permanent description of this food)

It is also important to say that for "happy" there is a tendency in Spanish  to use "ser feliz" or "estar contento".
