When to use indefinite article?

When I live in New York I will get an American accent."Cuando viva en Nueva York cogeré acento americano.

Hi, how can i know when to use an indefinite article? I know to not use it in front of a profession. Thank you,Shirley.

Hola Shirley

Not really - the reason why this is omitting the article is because "coger acento" is one of those set expressions, seen as prototypical/generic where we tend to drop it. Other expressions where we drop the article are for example:

tener coche (to own a car)

tener casa (to have a house)

pedir cita (to book an appointment)

I hope it helped.

Saludos
