Voy a + "verb" - going to

Why is this written like this: Esta noche especial voy a ir a un cotillón

The english said: I am going to a party, NOT I am going to go to a party

Should it be : Voy a un cotillón

Hola Dragana

As Marsha said, in English I am going to...[place] and I am going to go to.. [place] can both refer to a future action. But I think what you are pointing out here is more to do with the use of "voy a" in Spanish for a future action, is that right? which is also correct as we do use in Spanish the present tense to express something that is going to happen. This is the case here as we are saying "this special night I am going [to go] to a party", so you could equally use the present to express this future action as this is a planned action for that night coming.

We will therefore accept "voy a un cotillón" as another correct option.

Un saludo cordial

Inma

In Spanish it means the same thing - going to or going to go

See lesson - Conjugate in the near future in Spanish with ir a + infinitive (El Futuro próximo)
