Good question!
With usted, the verb is conjugated in the 3rd person singular, not 2nd person. That’s why you don’t use -abas.
So:
-
tú trabajabas
-
usted trabajaba
The correct sentence is:
En el año 2010, usted trabajaba para una escuela…
Even though usted means “you”, grammatically it behaves like él/ella, so it takes -aba, not -abas.
