Just a question on Spanish cultural prosody . . .
In each story, the "mi" as in mi casa, mi ciudad, para mi, mi opinión, mi familia . . . is subdued rather than accentuated as a prosodaic emphasis. In English, my opinion, my family etc. would be naturally emphasized. Is it a Spanish "thing" to avoid doing that?

You’ve made a great observation. In Spanish, unstressed possessive adjectives like “mi” tend to be naturally less prominent in speech. Spanish prosody generally places emphasis later in the phrase, often on the noun rather than the possessive, so mi casa, mi familia, mi opinión are typically pronounced with a lighter stress on mi.
In contrast, English often uses stress on possessives like my to add emphasis or contrast, which is why it can feel more marked.
Of course, Spanish speakers can emphasise mi if they want to add contrast (e.g. mi familia, no la tuya), but in neutral speech it’s usually more subdued, just as you noticed.
