In this specific context and structure the meaning is different to the general meaning of "understanding" when you say for example: "No entiendo tu pregunta" (I don't understand your question).
We use "entender + de + [algo]" meaning "to know about something, to have some knowledge about something, to be familiar with some topic..." like in this sentence about "arte".
