Los niños corren hacia sus padres.

Why isn't the personal "a" used, "hacia A sus padres"?

Hola Peter

We could say that a and hacia in this context are pretty much synonyms, but there is a little nuance differentiating them that we explain in an extra note in the lesson.

Basically, the preposition a generally indicates a final destination while with hacia we are saying towards but not always meaning that is the final destination. This is a very little nuance.

Saludos

Inma

Also, the personal “a” is used when the person is the object of the VERB.  In this case the person is the object of the PREPOSITION.
